First we are nearing the end of this warm / Indian summer! So before they go dormant run to this amazing place because I have gone to others and I know people can be bias and like certain places but Rich's is that true New England charm for fantastic ice cream. Found on route 67 just in Oxford north of Seymour and South of Southbury easy to find from either route 8 or route 84. You pull up to the most New England like setting with the large patriotic barn and service area. When warm tables are found along outside and I believe as the weather cools to the right of the service window is a large sitting area with a very large fireplace. Ice cream is made daily in a family affair and it's the concoctions that are amazing and so inventive. You will need on a warm day plan on being early place fills up and stays fill for the day. Kids working are high school / college aged so when you can leave a gratuity as these kids work hard . Now ice cream typical flavors but thru have sundaes and the best waffle cones anywhere. Nothing better than a Cookie Monster blue with Oreos or chocolate chip is amazing. Ingredients are the real things the ice cream is the freshest you will find, So before they close I believe after thanksgiving until March swing by and grab the best last treat you can have for this time of the year ..

I had stopped by Rich's for the 1st time a few months ago. I absolutely loved this place, long lines but definitely worth it. They were not kidding when they say their scoops are the size of baseballs, they for sure looked like it. I grabbed a perfectly dipped soft serve cone, delicious. I also grabbed a pint to take home, I did half of a special (which I can't remember it could've been dulce) & half German chocolate brownie. The staff was friendly & pointing out that the parking lot gets packed. The ice cream tasted really good. The ambiance of the establishment was fast paced, which is normal in places as popular as this. I can't wait to continue to return, at either of their locations.

I live in Newtown, but I have traveled to Rich Farm ice cream twice now to see if it has ice cream comparable to Ferris acres. They have a lot of different flavors to choose from, my favorite is the German chocolate brownie and my wife loves the coffee. It is usually busy here after dinner time but with four windows open it moves pretty quickly. If you haven't been here yet this is definitely a great spot to take the kids or your dog or your significant other for some after dinner ice cream.

One of the best ice cream shops I've ever been! My friend told me they usually have their cows out too which is where they source their fresh dairy from, and you can definitely tell in the quality of their ice cream. They have a wide variety of flavors and can choose from hard ice cream to soft serve to milkshakes and more. The portions are also HUGE! The line was long, but the service was quick and friendly. I got the mint chocolate chip and strawberries flavors. The mint was as you would expect--smooth minty ice cream with semi-sweet chocolate chips. I usually prefer when there are chocolate bits and pieces dispersed throughout the ice cream so there's guaranteed chocolate in every bite, but it was still good nonetheless. The strawberries ice cream was my favorite, however. It was just as creamy and smooth as the mint, but the brightness and large amount of strawberries was so refreshing in the summer heat. Both flavors were not overly sweet, and there were no signs of aeration or freezer burn. Overall, this place has absolutely delicious ice cream, and I would come back any day. I highly highly recommend trying it out if you're in the area! There might be a long line, but it moves relatively quickly and is totally worth the wait!!

My family has been visiting Rich Farm Ice Cream Shop for many years to enjoy their top notch ice cream. This past week was the first time we decided to order a homemade ice cream cake to celebrate a family birthday. The staff was happy to accept our special order with five days notice (unlike some other local creameries) and the cake was ready for pickup at the promised pick up time. The ice cream cake was an absolute hit for my family- a two layer ice cream cake with one layer of strawberry ice cream, a spread of the best chocolate crunchies, one layer of razzmanian devil ice cream, then topped with whipped cream. Thank you Rich Farm for your diligence and for helping top off a great birthday!

Should've updated this review long ago. We have enjoyed their ice cream numerous times over the last few years and every time it's ultra rich creamy delicious. Traditional flavors as well as new combinations. Services is always friendly. And there's literally always a line: could be raining or 2 o'clock on a Tuesday, and there is a line. That speaks for itself. The surroundings are beautiful sometimes the cows are out roaming in the pasture. There are picnic tables and spots to chill and enjoy this delicious ice cream. Parking lot gets full but they allow parking on the grass.

Finally adventured out to Rich Farm Ice Cream Shop in Oxford. I heard so many great things about their ice cream... Does it live up to the hype? Yes! They make all the ice cream on the farm. I tried the Pumpkin Oreo flavor in a waffle cone. The texture was so creamy, delicious flavor of pumpkin and large chunks of Oreo cookies. The waffle cone was tasty too since they are handmade fresh (even had dark caramelized bits from the iron). My husband got a vanilla milkshake which he said had a nostalgic taste. He lived in Oxford for a couple of years when he was a kid. This was likely what he ordered every visit. They offered a lot of ice cream flavors, the staples, classics, and seasonal. You could even pick up cartons to bring home. When we visited it was raining, but I think the weather worked in our favor. It was not crowded at all, I heard they can get busy with long lines. We were able to take our time to skim over the menu. Barely a line, four other customers besides us. There are picnic tables to eat ate, but we opted to eat our treats in the car. I can picture how nice this place would be on a warm summer day. Of course, I had to get a shot of my ice cream with the iconic Rich Farm silos. I would love to wonder back to Oxford soon. I can stop at the closest and newest Middlefield location for a quick fix since I had the OG first.

This is some of the best ice cream I have ever had. They have a ton of different flavors, all the classics plus lots more. They have great waffle cones too. The scoops are generous, I feel pretty full even with a small waffle cone. They also have soft serve although their hard ice cream is my favorite. They used to be cash only, thankfully they now accept cards. They are window service with a lawn and some outdoor benches and tables. Parking is easy even when they are busy. No indoor facilities, but they do have port a potties. Expect a line on the weekends but it is well worth the wait.
